Projects

Ellerslie

Over the past 12 years, our technical team has performed multiple drilling and recompletion programs targeting various reservoirs within the Ellerslie formation across central and southern Alberta.  Pursuing conventional and unconventional oil, and liquid-rich gas prospects, our staff has experienced and overcome many of the  challenges associated within this often-complex play.  Ellerslie operations are filled with high-pressure operational decisions requiring constant communication and teamwork in-order to succeed.

Glauconite

From deep-basin deposits at Hoadley, to conventional heavy oil pools at Jenner, the Glauconite formation continues to be key for many operators to date.  Having completed major mapping studies focused on volumetric and hydrocarbon recoveries, Speers Edge staff has been responsible for the identification of new pool extensions targeting tight reservoir units with low associated recoveries. Modern drilling and completion technology have proven effective in transforming areas previously deemed uneconomic, into highly prospective drilling options.

Upper Mannville

Our technical team has completed extensive evaluations targeting the Upper Mannville group across the Cold Lake oil sands region of Alberta/Saskatchewan for SAGD development potential.  Direct experience includes serving part of a team responsible for the submission of a EPEA Application for a new 12,500 bbl/d SAGD project called Selina, with an $512 million capital project estimate, in addition to providing geologic support to an actively producing 18,000 bbl/d producing SAGD asset, both located south of Bonnyville, Alberta.evaluations

Upper Mannville

Exploring all available means of increasing productivity while reducing capex, Speers Edge representatives have completed numberous reviews of technical advancements being deployed across numerous new plays across Western Canada.  As a result, our clients have gained insights relating to technology being implemented ranging from horizontal multi-perf technology targeting high-permeability oil-over water deposits to multi-lateral, open-hole horizontal wells targeting cold heavy oil deposits within the Mannville.

Spirit River

Having successfully evaluated various members of the Spirit River Formation and associated depositional environments including Falher channel complexes, Wilrich shorefaces and Notikewin deltaic/fluvial deposits, our technical staff has been able to unlock significant value for its clients through identifying new, unbooked, drill ready prospects ranging from deep-basin deposits at Edson to shallower eastern targets at Sylvan Lake, Morningside and Elnora, AB.

Viking

From Provost, AB to Dodsland, SK our dedicated team has scoured all available development projects targeting the Viking formation to accurately define reservoir attributes and technological advancements that have been instrumental in transforming this once conventional play into an unconventional juggernaut.  Our team has successfully mapped and delineated the Viking resources and booked numerous multi-stage stimulated horizontals across independent pools as part of corporate disposition programs.

Cardium

From Minehead to Lochend, our associates have completed in-depth evaluations of the Cardium formation all while actively serving as primary geoscientist on multiple large-scale, capital intensive drilling and completion programs targeting the unconventional Cardium "A" resource play.  Having introduced multiple innovative development concepts including extended reach horizontals and negative build rates, in addition to optimizing wellbore placement (e.g. bioturbated zone) our team continues to search for new ways of developing this major resources.

Shallow Gas

Representing one of the earliest developed resource plays across Western Canada, large-scale shallow gas development drill programs have long since disappeared due to the low commodity price environment.  Through innovation and creativity our technical staff has initiated multiple low-capital investment programs to offset shallow gas properties corporate declines for our clients including completing successful recompletion programs targeting undeveloped resources including Base Fish Scales shale and Belly River CBM.

Edmonton & Belly River

The Edmonton and Belly River groups represent a highly prospective resource when targeted within existing yet depleted wellbores via recompletion programs. Often difficult to delineate in true size or lateral extent, channel deposits within the upper and middle Belly River can often be exploited without requiring any form of stimulation.  Our team has identified and executed numerous recompletions within Edmonton and Belly River stratigraphic intervals with astonishing economic results regardless of natural gas pricing.

Horseshoe Canyon CBM

Organization and communication are critical for success during any operation however, this is multiplied when managing large-scale, fast paced drilling programs.  Our team of experts have gained extensive project management skills while conducting multiple drilling and completion campaigns targeting Horseshoe Canyon CBM across southern Alberta.  With spud to rig release occurring within two days, establishing a detail orientated, team approach to safe project management and execution regardless of time constraints is critical.
