Speers Edge Consulting Ltd.

With upstream oil & gas experiences stretching from NEBC to Alberta and Saskatchewan, the wealth of knowledge within our organization relating to both conventional and unconventional play exploration and development includes numerous drilling and completion campaigns across the basin, in addition to providing top echelon research analysis relating to both individual plays and corporate evaluations.

Implementing an innovative, technology-based approach to research and analysis, our experts have the tools and experience to identify and exploit all resources within the stratigraphic column, whether it be small scale independent recompletions of conducting full-scale resource play development scenarios.

Possessing a highly diverse set of skills and abilities, the Speers Edge team has served many key roles relating to special technical projects and strategic corporate initiatives beyond conventional upstream oil and gas development.

Cretaceous

The Cretaceous interval represents one of the most prolific hydrocarbon bearing systems across Western Canada.  Our associates hold conventional and unconventional reservoir experience gained through extensive research analysis within the major oil and gas producing groups within the Cretaceous including the Edmonton, Belly River, Cardium, Viking, and Mannville.

With over 150 vertical and horizontal wellbores of drilling and completion operational experiences targeting multiple Cretaceous stratigraphic intervals, Speers Edge continues to draw from its diverse background to apply key insights to ensure operational excellence is achieved for our clients.

The extensive background of our team includes both primary and secondary recovery schemes experience within the Cretaceous including CHOPS, SAGD, heavy oil and water floods developments.

Evaluation and analysis experience held by Speers Edge is not limited solely to reservoir attributes associated with productivity or recovery metrics.  The ability to proactively recognize sources of risk, or problems such as those potentially encountered during drilling operations, are critical in developing idealized drill plans that reduce drilling days caused by down-hole problems.

Having optimized drill programs targeting hard, abrasive stratigraphic intervals such as those encountered in the Rock Creek, our team has been able to reduce drill times through detailed bit performance reviews and idealized mud system selection.

Stressing the importance of conducting accurate pre-drilling risk assessments aids in ensuring all drilling operations are conducted safely, while being completed on time and on budget.

Triassic

The Triassic aged Montney Formation of Alberta and NEBC represents one of the most active unconventional plays developed by operators over the last decade.

Having initiated multiple regional research studies of the Montney formation focusing on attributes ranging from stratigraphy/deposition to reservoir quality to wellbore spacing optimization, in addition to completion and stimulation design evolution, Speers Edge has and continues to watch the Montney development evolve through time, utilizing new well information to fine-tune model parameters within our analytical process.

With operational experience ranging from vertical coring operations and special reservoir testing to drilling and completing multi-well development padsites, our representatives remains actively engaged in new operational concepts being tested across the Montney fairway.

Carboniferous

The highly prized carbonate reservoirs of the Rundle group including the Mount Head, Turner Valley, Elkton and Pekisko formations, have long been exploited through conventional drilling and completion design as a result of their often-observed high quality reservoir attributes.

Our professionals have experience analyzing conventional and unconventional carbonate pools ranging from the thrust belt of the foothills to the adjacent plains.  With extensive operational expertise gained from drilling and completing some of the earliest multi-stage, acid frac stimulated wellbores within the Elkton formation, the innovation of Speers Edge via solution orientated approach to business can be clearly demonstrated.

Devonian

With the advancement in drilling/completion technology and dominance of horizontal multi-stage stimulation wellbores, a revolution has occurred within the Devonian aged strata, targeting true source rocks in the form of the Duvernay Shale.

Representing one of the largest untapped resources in Western Canada, the Duvernay has become one of the most economically significant plays in Alberta over recent years.

Our team holds extensive experience in evaluating shale reservoirs including completion of regional studies of the Duvernay East Shale Basin at Huxley-Morningside focused on resource in place estimates, recovery potential, development scenarios, and wellbore execution and results.
